Schnerr’s Wild Cherry Tonic Compound Bitters on eBay

Watching this oddball on eBay. I cleaned the pictures up as the background was a bit competitive with the nice bottle. With about 1 day left in the bidding, the bottle price has already surpassed the $1,000 mark. I bet the west coast guys are on this with the Sacramento city location.

[eBay description]

Very likely a “one of a kind” bottle. Very Rare,  C. Schnerr’s Wild Cherry Tonic Compound on a “recycled J. Hostetter’s stomach bitters bottle”. That’s right the front of this bottle is labeled while the back is a re-used Hostetter’s bottle. I have never seen another one like it!!. Bottle is sealed with contents still inside. Bottle has no chips or cracks and is a beautiful rare example of bitters bottle and their multiple uses. A real gem!! C. Schnerr’s MFG Chemists of Sacramento, California.

Not one of a kind. Actually, pirated and “repurposed” Hostetter’s are seen fairly often around here. I sold a early 1870s Hostetter’s that was reused by Powers and Henderson and labeled Dr Mott’s Wild Cherry Tonic over the embossing. Nowhere near a thousand, more like 1/1oth of that. I might have a couple label and contents boxed upstairs.

    Ferdinand,
I had a Star Kidney and Liver Bitters (an embossed Sacramento square amber bottle) that had a GOGING’S WILD CHERRY PEPSIN and IRON TONIC label on it (also a Sacramento company).

I believe there is an embossed C. Schneer Capital Soda Works hutchinson style bottle here in California. Maybe the same company?

Hi Ferdinand, That Schneer’s sold for $2025.oo. I’m the guy who bought the labeled Mott’s over Hostetters from Mike Dolcini. I am now taking offers in the 1 to 2 thousand dollar range{ just kidding}. I don’t know why two people would go head to head on this bottle. Perhaps something to do with the original contents or the fact that it was a repurposed Hostetters. Go figure. A fool and his money are soon parted. Frank Ritz

Hammer price $2025.00! That seems nuts or is it for something so rare????
